History
In 2017, Braskem initiated a technological cooperation project with Topsoe AS, a leading provider of catalysts, technology, and services in the chemical and refining industry. This partnership resulted in an innovative technology currently in the final stages of development, paving the way for commercial-scale production of bioMEG and bioMPG by Sustainea.
Following a process that commenced in March 2022, Braskem and Sojitz have officially announced the establishment of Sustainea, which will be responsible for the production and marketing of bioMEG (monoethylene glycol) and bioMPG (monopropylene glycol).
Today
Headquartered in the United States, with an office in São Paulo, Brazil, Sustainea has a team of professionals with in-depth knowledge of the chemical industry and the creation and sale of sustainable solutions.
The business plan envisages the construction of three industrial plants, with the first unit slated for operational startup in 2027, taking advantage of market opportunities and feedstock availability.
Sustainea combine Braskem’s expertise in the industrial production and sale of chemicals and plastics made from renewable sources with Sojitz’s strong presence in Asia, a region that concentrates 80% of the global MEG market and where its consumption registered the highest growth.
